ANFAC 2018 report highlights port role in automotive industry

ANFAC (Asociación Española de Fabricantes de Automóviles y Camiones, the Spanish association of automobile and truck manufacturers) has produced a report for 2018 that includes the assessment of maritime-port logistics in vehicle traffic based on a questionnaire filled out by ANFAC partner companies.

The indicators have been prepared based on a specific questionnaire that this year has been answered by 16 car companies associated with ANFAC, half of them with industrial activity in Spain. The questionnaires were sent to the participating companies in April 2019 and were asked about the activity of the year 2018. Obtaining of results, its analysis and evaluation of results took place in the months of May and June.

The study covers a series of relevant aspects to configure a competitive port service in accordance with the quality levels required by the manufacturer for the maritime transport of vehicles.

The main sections analyzed are:

  • Level of involvement of the Port Authority.
  • Management of customs procedures.
  • Accessibility level to the port.
  • Status of deposit areas and agility in management.
  • Vehicle handling and monitoring of the standards established by the manufacturer for said vehicle manipulation in its interconnection with all modes of transport and in the terminal itself.
  • Incidents on vehicles.
  • Flexibility of port services, etc.

The list of companies that have participated in the report is: BMW, Fiat, Ford, Hyundai, Kia, Mazda, Mercedes Mitsubishi, Nissan, Opel, PSA, Renault, Seat, Toyota, Volkswagen Group Espana and Volkswagen Navarra.

The leading ports are: Santander, Sagunto, Malaga, Pasaia, Valencia, Tarragona, Barcelona and Vigo.
